Your Questions, Answered
Here we will try to answer your questions. If after reading this page you are still unsure you can get in touch with us through our Contact page.
Is it safe?
We feel it is as safe as it can be. To claim a refund on your SIM credit you have to have the number and you need physical access to the phone within a certain timeframe to get the text message with the PIN to complete the transaction. If you look after your phone and have it properly protected with PIN codes etc., only you can authorise a payment through the payforit system.
Can I use this service with any SIM?
SIMRefund.co.uk can be used with any UK SIM card that allows you to call or text premium rate services. Often SIM cards with promotional balances (like "top up with x and get x free") do not allow the use of these services.
Do I need an account to get started?
No, there is no need to register or set up an account. All you need is a SIM card with credit on it and a PayPal account to get paid.
Doesn't PayPal take a large chunk of my money when I receive a payment?
Normally they do. However, we have set up our PayPal account in such a way that the fees are paid by us. So what you see on our Tariffs page is actually what you get.
How do you charge my SIM card?
The underlying payment technology we use is provided by payforit.org, an organisation supported by all UK mobile operators. Please visit their website for more information.
Why the limit of £50 per number?
Since this service is intended for people to recover credit left over on their own SIM cards we felt a limit as stated above will not inconvenience genuine customers. Contact us if you have more than 50 Pounds credit on a single SIM and we'll see what we can do for you.
I have £ 3.37 credit. Can I get a refund on the full amount?
The payment technology we use only allows fixed amounts to be charged to your mobile. So unfortunately the answer is no, although this may change in the future.
Why does this not seem to work on Vodafone?
It appears from our testing that Vodafone does not allow your balance to go below 50 Pence when using premium rate services, although we have not been able to confirm this. Other operators might have similar rules.
Can I use this service if I have a contract SIM?
As long as you can use premium rate services the answer is yes. But quite frankly, it's difficult to see why you would want to.
How quickly do I get my money?
We aim to perform a payment run once a day, seven days a week. There is a two day 'cooling down' period to discourage fraudulent use of the service. In normal circumstances the money will be in your PayPal account three days ofter you complete the transaction.
I don't have a PayPal account, can you pay me by cheque?
Unfortunately, the answer is no. SIMRefund.co.uk is a 21st century service and we do not use 17th century payment methods. If you are a box breaker or collect handsets and have a large quantity of SIM cards to cash in it might be possible to get paid by BACS (and get a better rate). Please get in touch using the form on our Contact page.
Can I use your service from Abroad?
As long as the SIM card has a UK number and you have a PayPal account the answer is yes. All payments to your PayPal account will be made in GB Pounds, any conversion costs to another currency will have to be covered by you.
